In collaboration with the family doctor, a nurse and a dietician offer to individuals with diabetes, the support needed to understand diabetes, to better control glucose (blood sugar) level and to reduce the long-term complications of the disease.

Our specialists also work in the community to educate and screen those likely to develop diabetes.

They see individuals in consultation and do group education workshops.

Our Clientele
All persons who are:

  • Glucose intolerant
  • Type I Diabetic
  • Type II Diabetic
  • Gestational Diabetic
  • And their families
Our clinic is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday through Friday. Your family doctor can refer you or you may do so yourself by calling 632-1111 extension 364.

Learning to manage your disease can lessen the risk of potential complications.

Find out if you are at risk!
If you are age 45 or over, you may be at risk for diabetes and you should be tested at least every 3 years. If any of the following apply to you, you should be tested for diabetes earlier and/or more often:
  • I have a parent, brother or sister with diabetes.
  • I am overweight (especially if most of your weight is around your middle).
  • I am a member of a high-risk group (Aboriginal, Hispanic, Asian or African descent).
  • I have high level of cholesterol or other fats in my blood.
  • I gave birth to a baby that weighed over 4 kg (9 lbs) at birth, or I had gestational diabetes (diabetes during pregnancy).
  • I have high blood pressure.
  • I have heart disease.
  • I have numbness in my hands and/or feet.
  • I have trouble getting and maintaining an erection.
Recognize the Signs and Symptoms of Diabetes
  • Unusual thirst
  • Frequent urination
  • Unusual weight loss
  • Extreme fatigue or lack of energy
  • Blurred vision
  • Frequent or recurring infections
  • Cuts and bruises that are slow to heal
  • Tingling or numbness in hands or feet
