Dr. André Borduas Nominated for a Council Award
Since 1983, Dr. André Borduas has been as committed towards his clientèle as he has been towards his work colleagues. His candidacy has just been submitted with that of his wife Dr. Renée Arnold, for this year's Council Award of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
Dr. Borduas shares an office in private general practice with his wife and is very active with a large practice in a nursing home and a seniors residence, where him and his wife are medical directors.
An example of exceptional professionalism, Dr. André Borduas is by far the best trained physician in palliative care in our community, and he has devoted a lot of energies to the implementation of a Palliative Care Program at our hospital. He has also developed and supported a community program for bereavement needs outside the hospital. He represents the physicians of our community on the ten-member committee of volunteers and gives direction to the program.
Another area of particular interest for him is chemotherapy and Dr. Borduas has been the single most important figure in promoting Level 1 care at our hospital and is now working on the development of Level 2.
Since 1998 he has been course director for our in-house ACLS program.
We recently recognized his contribution in community education in palliative care as the
physician on the team who has organized four editions of the Care, Support and Share Educational Program.
Founding member of the new Ethics Committee, he has also been active in medical affairs at the hospital as President of the Medical Staff and as physician representative on the Medicine Team. When we started receiving third year medical students from the University of Ottawa, he quickly accepted a post as preceptor for our third year medical students.
With his wife Renée, he shares a vision of excellence in community healthcare. His commitment to the medical profession is exemplary. Respect and compassion are his greatest values.
