WELCOME TO OUR EMERGENCY ROOM
When you come to the Emergency Service:
1. Registration
Please have your health cards ready to be presented: your hospital blue card and your health card.
2. Triage
After assessment of your condition, the triage nurse will assign a priority code based on the severity of your situation. At our hospital, the sickest people are treated first.
3. Waiting room
While you are waiting, if you notice a change in your condition, IMMEDIATELY advise the triage nurse.
4. Exam room: Consultation with the doctor
One of our Emergency physicians will examine you. He/she may order blood or urine samples and radio/scan.
If you feel uncomfortable alone with a physician, it is always appropriate to ask a nurse to remain in the room.
Other healthcare staff may also take care of you if needed.
If your condition permits, the staff will redirect you to the waiting room while your tests are being processed. This will allow another patient to see a physician.
4a) It takes time to do the tests and more time to get the results.
While you are waiting
Eating: Do not eat or drink anything unless the nurse says it is IK.
Smoking: You can smoke in the smoking shelter located on the east side of the building; exist by the front doors and follow the arrows.
Visitors: At all time, we allow one attendant per patient in the treatment rooms.
5. Observation
The physician may decide to keep you under observation for a certain period or time. He/she may also decide that you be admitted.
5b) If you must be admitted, you will stay in the Emergency until a bed is available.
6. Discharged from the Emergency
• Follow the instructions given by the staff.
• Read written information carefully.
