Making the Hawkesbury & District General Hospital accessible!

We go to work. We go shopping. We go to the movies, grab a bite to eat. We go to the dentist and to the doctor. All of this, we do without thinking twice about it. At least, most of us don’t.

People with a disability do.

Often, obstacles stop people with disabilities from doing the kind of things most of us take for granted.
We call these obstacles, barriers to accessibility. A simple visit to the hospital may often become quite the challenge for the disabled. In Ontario, one out of seven people lives with a disability. As the population ages, the number will rise to one in five Ontarians over the next 20 years.

This is why the HGH is working on eliminating those barriers. Our facilities must become more accessible to the disabled by 2025, in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005.

It simply makes sense.
